MICAH and Democracy in Action!!

Next week, MICAH will be engaged in two very important actions as part of our "Integrated Voter Engagement" (IVE) efforts:
MONDAY, JULY 23
5:00 pm
Canaan Baptist Church
2964 N.11th St
.CANVASSING
After a brief orientation and a little food, we will go out in pairs to knock on some doors in the surrounding neighborhood.  We'll be doing a few things:
  • Asking people to sign the petition supporting closing the Milwaukee Secure Detention facility (MSDF);
  • Asking people to sign the petition to save the Job Lines, the bus routes that take people from the north side to jobs in Waukesha County;
  • Reminding people to register to vote. Canaan will be open for that on Tuesday and Wednesday;
  • Inviting people to the Candidate Forum (see below).

If you have done door-to-door canvassing before, you know that it is fun and interesting.  If you never have, this is a good chance to give it a try.

THURSDAY, JULY 26
6:00 to 8:00 pm
Friendship Baptist Church
905 W. North Avenue

CANDIDATE FORUM
The candidates for Sheriff have all been invited, as have the candidates for the 16th State Assembly District.  This is our chance to get the candidates to respond to the issues MICAH cares about, like jobs, transit, criminal justice, and more.

We have all seen what happens when we don't all participate in our democracy and our elections.  We need to get out to EVERYONE, to remind them why our votes matter, and to be sure everyone votes.
